How to Back Up iPhone to PC (Windows or Mac)
People search for “backup iPhone to PC”, “iPhone backup without iTunes”, and “save iPhone data to computer” every day. i4Tools lets you create a local backup on your computer with more control than a quick iCloud-only workflow—useful when you are low on iCloud storage, switching phones, or preparing for an iOS update or restore.
Why use i4Tools instead of only iTunes or Finder?
- Selective backup: You can often choose what categories to include, depending on the i4Tools version.
- Backup management: List, delete, or organize multiple backup snapshots on disk.
- Same machine, clear folder: You know the backup lives on your PC, not only in the cloud.
- Works alongside official tools: On Windows you still need Apple’s drivers (via iTunes); i4Tools adds a different UI and extra options. See i4Tools vs iTunes.
Before you start
- Download i4Tools for your OS.
- Install iTunes on Windows (or use Mac with Finder/iTunes support) so USB drivers work.
- Use a good USB cable and port; see FAQ if the phone is not detected.
- Unlock the iPhone and tap Trust This Computer.
Step-by-step: full backup to PC
- Open i4Tools and connect the iPhone or iPad.
- Wait until the device appears in the main window with model and iOS version.
- Open the Backup / Restore (or similarly named) section.
- Choose Backup, pick a save location if asked, and start the process.
- Keep the device connected until the progress bar finishes. Do not unplug mid-backup.
For encrypted backups, use the password option if your i4Tools build supports it—encrypted backups protect passwords and Health data similarly to iTunes encrypted backup.
Restore from a PC backup
After a backup exists, you can restore the same device or migrate to a new iPhone using i4Tools restore options. Always backup again before major operations like recovery mode restore or iOS downgrade attempts.
